

(edit: actually, I use this as a benchmark of how well I'm doing. If you don't you're already behind on the economy/military curve. Now I force my heroes into their own stacks because really you SHOULD have enough armies to have each hero leading a stack anyways. However, I did this mostly when I was still newer to the game.

Usually by turn 100, even if I started with a hero-stack deathball, I'll have split them into their own armies because their force multipliers are too good to pass up, and the elites you get access to by that point are starting to rival the power of a hero anyways.

A single powerhouse stack at the cost of all your other stacks having no heroes really limits what you can do across a whole map and multiple opponents. I find in the late game they aren't as useful though. I've used it a lot of times especially in the early game to get them all leveled up, and have a 'powerhouse' stack in case of emergencies.
